The Herbert classification was introduced alongside the Herbert double-threaded compression screw in 1984. Type A: stable acute (A1 tubercle, A2 incomplete waist). Type B: unstable acute (B1 distal oblique, B2 displaced waist, B3 proximal pole, B4 trans- scaphoid perilunate, B5 comminuted). Type C: delayed union. Type D: established non-union (D1 fibrous, D2 pseudarthrosis). It remains the European reporting default.
