Retrovascular cord

Pathological cord in Dupuytren's disease running deep (dorsal) to the digital neurovascular bundle. It does not flex the proximal interphalangeal joint on its own, but if left behind it prevents full correction of that joint and causes recurrence; with the lateral cord it produces distal interphalangeal joint contracture. The cord most commonly missed at primary surgery; found by deliberate dorsal exploration of the bundle.
