McFarlane cord pattern

The classical taxonomy of pathological cords in Dupuytren's contracture. McFarlane's 1974 dissection of 69 contracted fingers in 50 consecutive cases named five diseased cords — pretendinous, central, spiral, lateral and natatory — and showed that three (central, spiral, lateral) contract the proximal interphalangeal joint. The retrovascular cord was added by McFarlane in 1985, the abductor digiti minimi and commissural cords by later authors.
