First metacarpal extension osteotomy

Also known as Wilson osteotomymetacarpal extension osteotomyFMEO

An osteotomy at the base of the thumb metacarpal, derived from Wilson's basal osteotomy, that tilts the metacarpal into extension and shifts joint contact from the worn palmar compartment to the dorsal one. It is considered for early trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis; pooled data suggest pain relief without gain in grip or pinch strength.
